Sharp Zaurus SL-C860 Review

The information below is provided by AudioCubes. The features shown are Japanese specs. US sale date and specs are not yet known. Sharp as of now does not plan on marketing in US. Imported versions of this product can be found at a price of $500 - $600.

Sharp has again updated their hot SL-series. This latest version, the SL-C860, share the same hardware as the SL-C760 but has one new feature. Now, the Zaurus itself, as well as its SD and CF slots, will now be recognized as a hard drive under Windows. (The same way a memory card would be.) This new feature facilitates easier data transfer.

The SL-C750 features 64mb RAM and 64mb flash RAM. The SL-C750 has black casing around the screen. The SL-C860 and SL-C760 feature 64mb system RAM, 128mb flash RAM, and an upgraded battery. All models use the latest Intel XScale PXA255 400MHz processor, so applications launch at twice the speed of the original SL-C700.

The Zaurus SL-Series series has an innovative swiveling screen that transforms its shape from PDA-style to laptop-style. (The Zaurus is fully-functional either way.) Once in laptop-style, you can utilize the QWERTY keyboard, with its great tactile feedback. The Sharp VGA (640x480) screen is truly awesome: bright and razor sharp. In fact, sometimes it's so detailed it can be difficult to read the text; fortunately, there's a built-in zoom function that allows you to zoom up on the screen in five increments. Each step is larger than the previous, but none suffers any loss of quality. The screen's orientation automatically adjusts when swiveled. It's a very impressive design.
