Sony Ericsson S710 Review

“Mobile phones are part functional and now, more than ever, cool tech tools that look great. Let's face it; mobile phones are fun! Expect to see lots of new ones at the show, including this new Sony Ericsson S710 , which is just now or will soon be available through Cingular Wireless for $ 399 .

This is the second swivel-type phone I have seen in recent months, the first being the Kyocera Koi, which I reviewed for this past holiday season. Design cues are similar, but this phone is decidedly upscale, with a slightly better camera, removable memory, Bluetooth connectivity, a slicker UI (User Interface), better curb appeal, and, of course, a higher price, I have come to like the Sony Ericsson UI which I have become accustomed to through almost daily use of my Sony Ericsson T637. The S710 also features EDGE connectivity, for fast and easy access to downloads, messaging, interactive online gaming and wireless data. The 1.3 Megapixel camera with 8x digital zoom does a fine job in normal lighting and has a flash with night mode for lower lighting scenarios. You will be impressed with the quality. Slip the door open that covers the lens and you're ready. Save pictures, send them in email or multimedia messages or print them using Bluetooth connectivity with a nearby Bluetooth-enabled printer. You'll get respectable 4x6 prints, though 3x5 prints look a bit crisper. Of course, this new phone is also a little video recorder as are so many others. I like the 2.3-inch screen for its sharpness and brightness, and also its 256,000-color capability. It's almost TV-like. Have a look at it in greater detail HERE . The expandable memory comes via Sony's Memory Stick Duo, wherein the memory itself is just about the size of an SD card. It comes with a 32MB Stick Duo. Take it out and slip it in the included Memory Stick Duo adapter and now, it's the same configuration as a standard Memory Stick, so it can be inserted into any standard Memory Stick reader. OR, easily upload pix to photo printing Websites like www.Imagestation.com. Gaming is another strong suit. The S710 can hold more than 30 Java 3D games, so intense gamers take note, and the battery has been specially designed to allow for longer game play (and more calling). The phone is a tri-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE device so it's rigged for not only fast access to downloads, but also for interactive online gaming! Cool, hip and stylish is what the S710 is all about, and it's totally functional as well. Hold it vertically, it's a phone. Hold it horizontally, it's a camera!”[via mrgadget ]
