What is next for P2P file sharing?
![]() |
It all started with Napster. Grew with a handful of other P2P file sharing software. Now it has evolved with the MP3 players and iPods. So what is next for the file sharing community. After the huge legal uproar it seems as if illegal file sharing is hitting rock bottom. However with the major popularity of the MP3 players and other MP3 playing devices will the boom grow once again? geekBlue has a different view on the subject. Gmail started the whole 1GB storage for email and now allows users to use Linux based computers to access their space, using it as a secondary hard drive. Another file storage device which has become big is the USB Flash drives. Now up to a couple GB of storage, people can share files without even getting online. Cell phones with hard drives soon will have Phone2Phone capabilities and can transfer data wirelessly with speeds up to those of DSL. While technology increases, the desire or the amount of file sharing isn't going to decrease. I believe it is increasing still. The form of file sharing has just morphed into a non-internet form. Analysts can't determine the amount of files being shared through hands or even email. Internet speeds have tripled in the past 5 years for the average user and for someone to send a 4mb file over email is done while brushing their teeth in the morning. So has the P2P hit its low? geekBlue thinks it is doing just the opposite. You can make up your own mind but think about how many times you share different files and don't use a P2P program. How many songs do you listen to and give to someone else without even getting online? The digital revolution is still underway and will only increase until technology in the data storage sector slows down. As of today the marathon that technology is running isn't even halfway over. So strap in and getting ready for a wild ride, the technology race horse is leaving the gate. |
