Adelphia Taps Motorola to Grow High Speed Data Services

Motorola has been selected by Adelphia Communications to provide the Motorola Broadband Services Router family of products for deployment of advanced data services. This latest selection further establishes the BSR 64000 as an industry leading carrier-class CMTS/edge router and Motorola as a major supplier of Cable Modem Termination System solutions to the top cable systems in the United States.

Adelphia selected the BSR 64000 platform because of its innovative Advanced Spectrum Management capabilities, which allow cable operators to monitor and automatically correct for Radio Frequency (RF) impairments on the Hybrid Fiber Coaxial (HFC) access network. Advanced Spectrum Management allows operators to improve the performance of legacy modems while concurrently deploying DOCSIS® 2.0 modems that enable new services and higher performance levels.

The Motorola BSR 64000 platforms will allow Adelphia to expand its high-speed data offerings and begin to provide advanced voice services in selected markets. In addition, the BSR family will migrate to support next generation network requirements for converged voice, data and video in the future, maximizing and extending Adelphia's investment today.

“Adelphia is committed to providing our customers superior quality of service levels to support video, voice and data services,” said Marwan Fawaz, CTO, Adelphia. “Motorola's BSR platform will give us the ability to expand our DOCSIS 2.0 footprint and provide next generation products”.

“Adelphia is a valued customer and a provider of exceptional services to its large subscriber base,” said Charles Dougherty , corporate vice president, Motorola Connected Home Solutions business. “We are very pleased that another leading MSO has recognized the proven record of the BSR 64000 and has turned to Motorola platforms to help them deliver voice, video and high-speed data services. We are proud to be given the opportunity to expand our relationship with Adelphia.”[via motorola press release]
