Clear Channel Plans to Broadcast to Mobile Phones

Clear Channel Communications, the top US radio station operator, said that they intend to begin offering content over cell phones by the end of 2005. The San Antonio, Texas, company said it plans to let U.S. cell phone users download or access originally produced radio programs as early as the end of this year.

The company took a massive $4.9 billion charge on its earnings statement in the fourth quarter last year due to a devaluation of its radio license holdings. Due to the proliferation of the internet, broadcast radio hasn't shown to be as profitable for Clear Channel as it once was.[via geekcoffee]
