IBM and AMD Launch Dual-Core for Desktops
![]() |
The battle continues between both IBM and Advanced Micro Devices. They released different price strategies yesterday, proving that they are not on the same page when it comes to marketing ideas. . IBM is setting the market by selling their dual-core processors, from AMD, for the price of a single-core. This will allow lower end users using Linux and Windows to afford the technology. AMD felt differently by pricing over what their single-cores would cost. Their hopes is to bring the market cost for new dual-core chips up to maximize on profits. The dual-core chips from AMD were also released for server machines. Intel's chips were displayed on Monday but server chips won't be seen until next year. Dell is one of the PC makers that didn't miss a beat when they rolled out their dual-core desktops. You will see as more are being released that the technology isn't cheap. Prices range from 2,300 to 3,000 and designed specifically for the home multimedia and game enthusiasts. Alienware, Dell and lesser-known maker Velocity Micro are among the first to begin taking orders on dual-core desktops. Their machines are based on Intel's Pentium Processor Extreme Edition 840 processor, the first dual-core PC processor to hit the market. |
