Microsoft trying to raise hype for Longhorn
Over the past couple months we have seen Microsoft go through some turmoil with their new operating system Longhorn. After delaying the release a couple times, Microsoft took a step back to rethink their approach. Now a new campaign is going on. Chief executive Steve Ballmer discussed six key features or 'pillars', at the Microsoft's Management Summit (MMS) in Las Vegas, that will set the mark for Longhorn. One major key was the fact that Longhorn will support 64-bit chip sets. Ask anyone from Microsoft right now and they will tell you that this will be one of the biggest OS since the first release of Windows 95. We can take that in different ways but the fact is that it's been a couple years since a good OS has hit our desktops. Ballmer, Microsoft Chief executive, claims Longhorn will take 70 per cent fewer reboots than previous versions of Windows. That is a big claim since rebooting has a lot to do with hardware as well as software. The whole point that was trying to be made was that this new version will be easier to use with less headache for the user. Simplicity is their goal and if they produce a user friendly interface with security at every angle then Longhorn might meet up to what Microsoft is making it to be. |
