Nokia unveils two new phones, the 8800 and 8801
![]() |
Nokia has unveiled two new phones that seem to be a mark of luxury. Their new phone designs, named 8800 and 8801, have been made with the same techniques that watchmakers use. The front faceplate is made of a tough glass typically used in watches, helping to prevent scratches. The slim stainless steel body slides apart to reveal a number pad. Metal injection molding was used to make the function keys. The glide or the 'pop up' feature was made possible with a bi-stable spring mechanism and stainless steel ball bearing. The Nokia labels on the phones were chemically etched into the back with a process used by watchmakers. There is no doubt that Nokia is trying to hit a more prestige market. They are raising the bar for durability and style. The phones are planned to be released by the second quarter of 2005. No price yet for the US market. |
