RealNetworks finds and fixed security flaw

RealNetworks has run into some security problems with their Real Player software but says they have fixed the problem. RealNetworks has released a patch that will stop hackers from running a buffer overflow attack. This attack was normally ran because the software allowed users to run their own code on the machines. This type of flaw, in the software, is very critical and can open up many options for hackers. The effects of any attack is seen through Windows or Mac, so no one is really safe. RealNetworks says they haven't had any other security flaw reports until now. However, because of this recent discovery the European Commission has ordered Microsoft to remove Windows Media Player from all Windows XP versions that are being shipped.

There have been patches and updates available since Tuesday.

Similar attacks are found in different software and have been fixed over time so this one will be fixed in any new version you might get. Always get updates to make sure you are better protected.
