Samsung Announces 4GBit Flash Memory Chips
|
Samsun announced that they have developed a Flash memory chip which can hold 4GB of data. These micro-size chips are said to use low power and can transfer data at rapid speeds. Improvements are still being made but the final product will be out later this year. "The device is said to deliver a sustained data read speed of about 108 megabytes per second and a write speed of 10 megabytes per second. It can store about 250 sequential photographs from a 5-megapixel camera phone, or up to 120 music files. The memory is in a quad die package developed by stacking 4 one gigabit OneNAND chips in a 90nm production process. The company expects the use of these chips to go up with the increase in use of 3G mobile phones, new PDAs, mobile gaming systems such as the PSP, and digital cameras."
