Underwater Digital Camera Review

If you like to go swimming or plan on going on vacation soon then check these waterproof cameras out. The first one we see is the Pentax OptioWP digital camera which offers a five megapixal picture even in shallow water. This camera is said to be "splash proof" but accidentally dropping it in the sink or shallow part of the ocean for a couple secs won't hurt it either. Consumer Price: $399

The next camera is more designed for the underwater life, the SeaLife ReefMaster 300. Completely covered in rubber this camera takes about a 3 megapixal shot. For the size and features this camera is the way to go. It works at depths up to 200 feet and has a working 1.6 inch LCD color monitor. You can view and delete your pictures right there if you want. The ReefMaster can shoot video and store it to its internal 8mb memory or to a SD card. Software is included and it can also be connected via USB for PC compatibility. Consumer Price: $399

For under half the price of the SeaLife digital camera, a company called DXG USA, has it's own underwater 3 megapixal camera. It only works at about 16 feet but depending on use the price speaks for itself. Consumer Price: $139

Another option for shooting underwater is using a case for your camera. They are called underwater housings and are available for most popular brands and models. For a lot less than purchase a separate camera for underwater you can buy a housing and not worry about getting your current camera wet. The housings can be removed so don't worry about permanently leaving it on.
