Intel and AOpen Make the Intel Mini?

Intel and AOpen have teamed up on a new project which has produced a small form factor PC that looks strangely similar to the Mac Mini. The system, which is based on the Intel Pentium M processor paired with a mobile 915 chipset, will be displayed this week at Computex 2005.

According to a company spokesperson, the PC is designed to target households that would be using it as a second or third computer, or for living spaces that a traditional PC would not look right. The systems use the Pentium M processor and chipset due to its lower cooling requirements, therefore smaller and less sound.

Scheduled to ship in September, the first XC Cube model EY915 will cost just under $1,000 without a display. Quite a premium to pay over the $499 Mac Mini.[co-published with geekCoffee]
