MiTac Mio 136

For some reason we here at geekBlue like GPS systems. We don't use them very often during our normal routines but when we get our hands on one we go out of our way to use them and test their capabilities. This time we are looking at the Mitac Mio 136. This system is one of two that we are reviewing that are specifically designed for your car's dash. They have GPS capabilities and can play MP3s. The MiTac looks more like a traditional PDA and is about the same size but the functions are nothing of the sort. It has a 3.5 inch touch screen that can show a map and directions nicely. The unit has built-in speakers for audio directions and help during driving. You can close down the popup antenna and carry the Mio around to use as an MP3 player. Headphones are included in the package. The downfall is that this system is a flash memory based system. That means all your MP3s will have to loaded through memory card from your computer. This also means that there are no maps preloaded on your device and that you will have to download the need area before leaving your house. The device uses a SD memory card but no PC adapter is included. The antenna on this unit is small and less sensitive to movement that most other full size models. You can't play music and navigate at the same time and having no internal memory can take up time to download data on your SD card. Over all the system is less expensive than most but be sure to look around and compare before making any purchases. Feel free to email geekBlue with any questions about purchases or items before you make the big jump.
Consumer Price: $499
