Panasonic unveils prototype color e-Book

Panasonic is currently exhibiting a prototype e-book reader that displays pictures in full color in Tokyo. The prototype comes with a 5.6” TFT LCD XGA display with an approximate resolution of 210 ppi.

The previously released Sigma e-book has two 7.2” memory-type monochrome LCD XGA panels, and marrying these 2 panels resulted in a smaller and lighter end result. Using a Li-on secondary battery is an improvement over the previous iteration. In order to produce a commercially viable product by July 2006, Panasonic aims to extend the battery life to 6 or 7 hours per charge. Pricing is not yet confirmed.
