Makers of variety of flash memory formats SanDisk have revealed that they are now planning to launch a 2GB variant of the microSD storage disks. These disks were earlier known as TransFlash. The name was changed when the format was adopted by the SD Card Association back in March. Now, various mobile phones around the market support this storage media and it has got quite popular amongst users.

The latest news means that the company would be making available a 1GB microSD chip by the end of this year and move on to a 2GB variant sometime next year. The size of this storage device is quite small and this would give SanDisk an advantage over their rivals in the coming times. Enhanced storage would further increase the popularity of this storage standard.

Further, with mobile technology growing by leaps and bounds and with cell phones coming with phones (up to 7mega pixel capabilities) and mp3 players, their would be huge demand for these kind of storage units. The company has not yet revealed their pricing strategy but the current rate for the popular 256MB is around UK Pounds 20. The 512MB version is retailing for around UK Pound 40.
