Smart needles for distracted knitters

This small device named the KnitWit, by Rebecca Spender, uses the movements in the two needles to determine how many stitches and rows you have completed. How it works is the device have sensors in the needles which determine, based on movement, if you have completed an actual knit combination or started a new row. When it recognizes one of those it will increment the counter. Now when you give your family members tube socks for Christmas, that you made from scratch, you can tell them how many stitches it took you to complete it.
