Apple Pulls Buggy Security Update

Apple has pulled back a critical security update released earlier this week for OS X because of a flaw that causes it to break 64-bit applications. Security Update 2005-007 took care of several security bugs in the OS, but rendered 64-bit optimized applications unusable, causing a huge support headache for California-based Apple.

Apple is aware of the issue and plans to fix the security update according to Ben Wilson, a spokesperson for Wolfram, maker of Mathematica.

Users of the 64-bit software have a temporary workaround by turning off the 64-bit optimizations until Apple releases a fix for the problem.[co-published with GeekCoffee]
