IBM and Sony Reveal Specifications for Cell Processor

IBM and Sony have revealed the specs of the next-generation Cell processor, which is being used in Sony's upcoming PlayStation 3. The processor, developed by IBM, Toshiba and Sony supports multiple operating systems and is comprised of eight separate processors. The design itself is a single-chip multiprocessor consisting of Power Processor Elements (PPEs) and multiple high-performance SIMB (Single Instruction Multiple Data) Synergistic Processor Elements (SPEs).
