Google saves infant from unnecessary operation
![]() |
| A few weeks after a couple brought their premature twins home from the hospital, one of them had to be admitted to the ER. The doctors told them that the baby had a serious problem, that his hemoglobin levels had dropped by 50%. The doctors wanted to do an emergency blood transfusion immediately. The father of the child used Google search on his cell phone to look up "hemoglobin" and "premature infant." He found a medical journal article which said that it's normal for premature twins to have a drop in their hemoglobin levels during the first three months. After a few hours researching the topic, the doctors "sheepishly admitted that the child was indeed fine - no treatment was necessary." Google had saved their son from having to endure a dangerous and totally unnecessary blood transfusion. Link |
