Microsoft and Intel back HD DVD

Microsoft and Intel announced this past week that they will join the HD DVD Promotion Group. The companies determined that the HD DVD format meets important criteria and delivers unique advantages, including an easy, affordable transition to high definition for consumers.  While one of the competing formats, Blu-ray, can hold more data than HD DVD discs, HD DVD will be released to the market sooner, and discs will be cheaper for consumers (as well as the hardware produced for manufacturers). via
