Wacom Graphire 4x5 tablet Hands-on Review

We recently review the Wacom Graphire Bluetooth tablet and found very good results. Now we got our hands on the smaller Wacom Graphire4. It's smaller, lighter, and easier to use. We did a complete hands-on review of this little giant including pictures and test cases. Click below to read the full review.

Once taken out of the box we can see the parts looks the same as the larger Graphire Bluetooth, however, there were a couple of exceptions. The size of this tablet was smaller and there was a USB cable connected to it. This seemed to be a lot simpler to use than the Bluetooth dad. For most XP users it's plug and play. The OS finds it and reads it within seconds and you can start using it right then. If you don't use XP there are drivers included in the package. My tests were only used on an XP system yet the tablet is able to work with OS X Macs too.

As you can see from the image above (which I held to close to the camera) the pen included has two buttons instead of the one like the larger Graphire Bluetooth. Along with the buttons and the easy grip neck the pen is very comfortable to use. The Graphire4 holds nothing back and can do everything the larger versions can. Because it is connected with the USB cable there is no need to set up Bluetooth, yet you can only go so far with the tablet. The cable is only a couple feet so using it at the next desk wouldn't work. Since the tablet itself is the size and shape of your standard mouse pad, it's a great replacement for your current mouse as well. The mouse included is standard size and includes a scroll wheel. I used it for a couple hours one afternoon and found it to be very smooth and accurate. The only small issue I ran into was the surface area of the tablet is smaller so you have less room to work but for non-everyday users and for amateur designers it's a perfect addition. If you are looking for something larger try the Wacom Graphire4 6x8. Same features larger design.

The tablet itself includes a scroll wheel and also one left and one right button. The outer casing is made of hard clear plastic and can be removed for cleaning or inserting pictures under the drawing surface. That feature is great if you are trying to outline something on paper and put it into your PC.

Because of the USB connector there is no need for a power supply. This worked out good for me because there are less cords and plugs you have to deal with. It's always on and always ready to use.

The software included was the Adobe Photoshop Elements 3, the Corel Painter Essentials 2, EverNote Plus 1, JustWrite Office 4.1, and the nik Color Efex Pro 2 GE.

Overall this tablet is nothing short of the standards desired by tablet users. If you are an everyday tablet user, you might want to splurge and get the larger Wacom Graphire4 tablet. If you just like to draw and want something extra get this one. The price for this smaller tablet is only $99. The price is really good for add-on accessories for you computer.
